Celebrity-fan dialogue channels – Vobolo, too?

The need for celebrities to be in constant touch with their fans has led to quite a number of them signing on to social media networks. Twitter, Facebook and Instagram among other mediums have come in handy as useful channels for touching base with the people who make them relevant. Vobolo , a micro voice blogging service that allows recording and sharing of voice data on Facebook and Twitter is the latest addition to the list. Some Ghanaian celebrities who have hooked on to the service include Chris Attoh, Ama K. Abebrese, Jeremie, Nana Aba Anamoah, Yvonne Nelson, Edem, Cwesi Oteng, Yvonne Okoro, Efya, Cwesi Oteng, and Deborah Vanessa. It is good business, considering the number of known figures signing onto it.  But were lies its future? Before Vobolo was Keek, and before the latter were some other ones, which have since gone into  hiding . The answers surely can be found in just how serious some of these celebrities treat the subject of fan-engagement.

The multi talented mother of one, has told enewsgh.com in an interview that “Compared to what I was doing earlier, which was  Room Service  it’s a bit challenging because  you know it’s not late night where you know that not a lot of people …. like you’re not even sure who and who are listening but right after drive is another peak period on radio.” “And I mean I had Jeremie doing this for five years and I had to take over so yeah definitely it was a little bit challenging because I didn’t know how I was going to fit into those shoes that she left and also how people are going to accept me and all that…” Has she been able to have a hold on the show yet? “I would say so … I mean we hear what people say all the time. Social media is also there, you are able to check who and who are listening and then we ask around. And I think I’ve done well

Interview with Sports Journalist Veronica Commey

A respected name in Sports Journalism in Ghana, Veronica Commey continues to excel in a field. In this interview with me , she talks breaking through and having her first shot at what was an otherwise tough and strict turf, tight working schedules, ethos of the profession, and relationship among other exciting revelations. “The bad thing about it all is that I do not have a life,” she says … “I don’t go to the club … because when i’m not working, i’m at home.” Q. How many years have you been practicing as a sports journalist? A. It’s been a lot of years; it makes me feel like I’m old already.  I have done this for six years. My service was over in 2005, and just weeks after that I got employed at the Ghana News Agency, where I did my service. So I have actually been going up and down for six years. Q. Does it pay to be a journalist in Ghana? A. It doesn’t. I keep saying that. I never thought it will pay this little. But what’s been the driving force, is my passion, and tells

Celebrities and Revenue Generation streams

Sales of compact/video discs over the last few years have been on the decline because of the proliferation of the Internet and mass media. These days, consumers prefer downloading music, videos or movies off the Internet instead of buying physical copies. It has led to many producers backing out of the industry and investing in other ventures as a result of their inability to recoup their investments. Agiecoat, Slip, Big Ben and other notable individuals and companies come to mind. All hope is however not lost because there are other avenues or ways musicians/producers, and actors can make money other than relying solely on music/video sales. Quite a sizeable number of Ghanaian celebrities are active on social media and have a large following. They (celebrities) can get paid to promote brands and companies on these platforms. For instance Kim Kardashian has over 18 million followers on Twitter. She is paid some $20,000 to tweet-drive brands. Actress Lydia Forson has a foll

It’s been some two months since you joined Live FM. How has the experience been like? A. Awesome Q. How awesome? A. Awesome meaning I wanted a challenge;  i wanted to try something new and that’s exactly what this is. Even though it’s still family and it’s not exactly totally and completely new because this is Vibe and i used to be at Vibe so it’s like coming back home. On the other hand the experience is totally different because on Y Fm I was doing three hours in the evening. Here, I am doing the drive which is more challenging. I am the only female in Ghana doing the drive at the moment and that’s like a huge task. And so I have learnt a lot; am growing more and am reaching a much larger audience and it’s awesome. That’s exactly what I was looking for. Q. What influenced t
