A trailer of medical drama ‘ New Amsterdam ’ has been released by American Broadcaster, NBC and Universal TV. The series stars Ghanaian-Iranian-British actress Freema Agyeman as Dr. Hana Sharpe, the lead doctor at a Manhattan hospital who has not practiced medicine in a while. She appears on Talk shows across the country pitching the hospital. The production is inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s memoir Twelve Patients: Life & Death at Bellevue Hospital. It tells the story of the new director (played by Ryan Eggold) of a hospital whose approach disrupts the status quo while always prioritizing patient care. Located in Manhattan, it’s the only hospital in the world that has the capability to treat Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers Island and the president of the United States all under one roof.
