MY INTERVIEW WITH SKILLIONS RECORDS ACT PAAPA

I had a chat with Paapa a couple of weeks ago at the Skillions Records studio where we talked about his schooling , music , up coming concert and other matters .  How difficult or easy is it combining school and music? Let’s just say I’ve always liked to be the jack of all trades ….. master of jacks doing many different things so right from SOS that’s where I went to secondary school in Tema, I developed skill of  not multi tasking but being able to do so many things at the same time. I will be in school then I will go and lead the choir and then lead the band and go and be a prefect and do all this different things. And I guess I developed some level of discipline and focus so with each task that I’m doing I’m fully present in that task so I don’t have  a lot of distractions. When people ask what I do for fun I don’t know what to say (laughs), I really don’t know what to say. What I do for fun is what I do in my life, like my life should be fun. when I’m in cl...

SOCIAL MEDIA AS A CREATIVE PROMOTIONAL TOOL

Most Ghanaian musicians and producers alike have over the years attributed their inability to make decent promotional outputs to Payola. That reason won’t fly in this era of mass media. Social media within the past few years has proven a workable medium for the successful execution of promotional campaigns; a large chunk of the target audience of these musicians also live there – literally. It offers that direct, in-your-face connection, without having to opt for the more conventional streams. In two separate interviews with Edem and Skillions Records act Paapa, they both agreed on how crucial social media is to the work they do. Paapa isn’t your average mainstream music artiste but he’s got quite a large, loyal fan base. His first album  Solar  was mainly promoted on social media. Manifest is another artiste who has made great use of social media. He’s managed to get the attention of music lovers to apprecia...

OPINION : GHANAIAN CELEBS AND SOCIAL MEDIA

That most Ghanaian celebrities fail to recognize the crucial role social media plays in today’s world, is a matter of great concern to me. I find it difficult to understand why some simply don’t want to be a part of the new age. Assuming you are lost as to what social media is or what it constitutes, Wikipedia tells us it is the means of interaction amongst people in which they create, share and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. Social media networks/platforms that are usually used by celebrities over the world include Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Vine, Keek, Google +, Tumblr, Pinterest, Flickr, Vimeo  and to a larger extent YouTube. These have become means through which celebrities get to maintain personal and direct contact with their fan base. I have noticed however that with the exception of few of our celebrities, most dont see the relevance of social media. It’s either they are not signed on to any of the above or their existing o...
