Miss Ghana 2012 Naa Okailey Shooter made history by being the only African delegate at this year’s Miss World 2013 finals to make it to the Top 5 finalists. She eventually won the 2 nd runner up position.                    Miss France Marine Lorphelin placed second to Miss Philippines Meagan Young who was crowned Miss World 2013 at an event held at Nusa Dua Convention Centre in Bali, Indonesia. Social Media has been awash with congratulatory messages for the feat, which is the first of its kind in the history of Miss Ghana’s affiliation with the Miss World competition.                     Okailey placed third in the Miss World Beach Fashion and was amongst the top ten finalist in Beauty with A purpose project. Barring any change of plans, she is expected back in Ghana on Monday, and would be met on arrival by her family members, officials of the Miss Ghana organization and some state officials.

The 2013 edition of the Woman 2.1 Summit has been launched in Accra. At an impressive ceremony held at Villa Monticello, Chief Executive Officer of Effusion, Africa Benjamin Gregory Aggrey, mentioned that the summit was necessitated by the need to share the success stories of women, and what they can do to inspire growth in all aspects of national life. “The Summit is not to pitch women at men, I don’t believe in men being the standard for women to match. Women should be better version of themselves,” he said. Some personalities scheduled to speak at this year’s event including Charlotte Gustavsson, Chief Executive Officer of Viasat 1 Ghana, Sefa Gohoho, CEO of Shangai Africa Group, Constance Swaniker, CEO of Accents & Arts, Eunice Ijeoma Aku Ogbugo, CEO of Eugo Terrano, and Ellen Hagan, CEO of L’Aine Services, took turns to share their success stories. The 21 st  edition of the Miss Ghana UK beauty pageant will take place on Saturday September 28, 2013. Twenty One ladies will compete amongst themselves to determine who will take over from last year’s winner Esther Titi-Lartey. The event will be held at Troxy, 490, Commercial Road, London. “This year’s event is the twenty first edition and it promises to be bigger, better and more exciting, considering the sort of work we have done. From the contestants to the crew, everyone is fired up to ensure September 28 becomes that one memorable night. There will also be performances by the finest Ghanaian and UK based artists,” the organizers have said Miss Ghana UK is an  Akwaaba UK  event.
