Ghanaian rapper soundtracks new Spider-Man movie

One of the official soundtracks for the upcoming Spider-Man movie is by a Ghanaian rapper.

Rapper Blackway and DJ duo, Black Caviar created ‘What’s Up Danger,’ a soundtrack for the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

“Being presented with the opportunity to be a part of this project is probably the coolest thing that has ever happened to me, and ‘What’s up Danger’ is the product of me being able to work with creative minds like Jared Piccone and Troy Hinson of Black Caviar,” says Blackway to American publication, HYPEBEAST.

“The production behind the record is so intense and full of the perfect kind of energy for the film.”

“When the opportunity to write a song for the new Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse film came up, our 10-year-old selves were freaking out. We got connected to Blackway and on day one in the studio, he laid down the [wildest], tense, aggressive lyrics we could’ve imagined… and the song was born.” says Black Caviar on the song.

The movie set for release on December 14, is about Spider-Man mentoring a teenager from Brooklyn, N.Y., to become the next web-slinging superhero.

Republic Records in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment produced the soundtracks of the movie.

In June 2017, livefmghana.com reported Blackway had signed a deal with Republic Records.

Born Yaw Sintim-Misa, he is the son of Ghanaian Comedian and Satirist Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM).

BlackWay was born in Brooklyn, United States of America but grew up in Ghana till the age of 13 when he returned to the States to live with his mother.

He started pursuing music at the age of 15. The praise from his family and friends encouraged him to continue making music, leading to approval from people in the music industry. He writes music based on inspiration and happenings in his life and the people around him.

Republic Records is a division of Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company, it is home to an all-star roster of multi-platinum, award-winning legends and developing superstar artists.

Drake, Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, Kid Cudi, Jessie J, Damian Marley, Birdman, Ariana Grande and Lil Wayne are some of the artistes signed to the label.
