Message To Stans

This post was inspired after reading some tweets a couple of days ago. The message was directed at stans : assuming you don’t know what/who stans are (they are hard-core fans of musicians who don’t take it lightly when anyone says anything nasty about their favourite artiste or people who are obsessed with music stars.)

Stan is said to have come about as a result of hip pop super star Eminem’s experience with fan who was obsessed with him (Eminem ), this led to the song stan by Eminem.

Fact is that some of these stans have ‘ group names “ so whenever that name is mentioned , you know the particular artiste they are representing . Below are a few examples of such group names

1. Beyhive Beyonce

2. Navy Rihanna

3. Beliebers Justin Bieber

4. Lambs Mariah Carey

5. Monsters lady gaga

6. Teambreezy Chris Brown

Now back to the tweets which inspired this post , the author of these tweets is Todd Williams (@ steorowilliams ) In his bio he describes himself as comedy writer,/ journalist/music enthusiast. He tweets

“ Be a die-hard fan. But don’t be a stan. U don’t know these people . They don’t know you . Don’t get into fights over this shit . “

I want to believe that every music lover knows of the famous or maybe infamous “ war ” between Hip pop superstars Jay Z and Nas , it wasn’t just a “war” between these two because stans decided to make it their own. Even though the feud is over , stans of these two artistes continue to engage in debates as to who is the best. There are many other examples but I guess this will do for now.

Personally I agree with his tweets ( I favorited them) particularly the second one. I love Jay Z , Beyonce, Kanye West and lately J.Cole and Melanie Fiona but there’s no way on earth that I would engage in an argument or twar (twitter war ) because of the above named artistes. I admit hearing/reading someone say nasty stuff about your favourite artiste isn’t pleasant but that isn’t enough reason to get into heated debates or name calling .

My conclusion is arguing on behalf of these musicians isn’t going to change your lfe in anyway and its very unnecessary. What is your thought on this issue ? Leave a comment here or mention me on twitter @Ghameli lets have a chat.
